ACO and ACO Youth Orchestra Side-By-Side

In September, ACO formed a Youth Ensemble to give young people playing at a high level a large ensemble to be part of. This produced an excellent debut concert in January, which featured Rutter's Suite for Strings.

We're excited to combine our Youth Ensemble with players of the ACO to perform Sibelius' epic Symphony No. 1. Alongside this, our Youth Ensemble strings will perform Britten's Simple Symphony and Bartok's Romanian Dances with their leader, Charlotte Slater, who is in her final year at school.

Please come along and support these incredible young people as well as the amazing players of the ACO for an unforgettable evening of music!

Conductors

In our first two decades, we worked with a number of conductors including local legends Ed Paley, Roger Williams, Geoffrey Atkinson, Kevin Haggart, Julian Marx and Pete Stollery, alongside other big names from the Scottish music scene including Richard Chester. In 2000, Gareth John was invited to become the permanent conductor, working with us until 2023.

Now in our 41st year, we look forward to working with Dr Tim Tricker, Chris Gray and Tomas Leakey for our 2024-2025 Season.
